Keep the Line Moving Newsletter - March 2024

Welcome!

The Keep the Line Moving podcast and this newsletter focus on giving you a leadership and inspirational edge as seen through our core principles in curiosity, storytelling and self-awareness. These principles are also featured in our workshops, coaching, content creation and consulting.

Let’s make 2024 a year to learn and grow as leaders.

This Month’s Focus

We just produced and recorded a Leadership in Content in Professional Sports Webinar presented by The Gargano Leadership Group and Sports Video Group which we will release both as a video and podcast soon.

In the meantime, here are the top three takeaways as discussed by the panelists – two senior leaders from the NFL and one from MLB.

1. Value EQ and IQ.

  • Self-awareness is vitally important, even more important than your skillset.
  • Make sure that self-reflection is part of your routine and evaluate yourself as a leader.
  • Showing authenticity, vulnerability and humility allows your team to understand and respect your abilities as a leader.

2. Continuous Learning

  • All three panelists understand that leadership requires active learning and evaluation.
  • Knowing and implementing a Servant Leadership philosophy works.
  • You lead people and you manage projects.

3. Advice for people getting into professional sports.

  • Be curious and authentic.
  • Telling your story is important, but listening and asking questions is more important.
  • Research the organization, the content department, the leaders and know what they produce.

In summary, all three leaders consistently emphasized that remaining humble and accountable are the reasons for their success. Keep an eye out for the webinar’s release to hear the entire valuable conversation.

Leadership Observation

In two separate conversations this week with two high level leaders, the concept of joy surfaced. What does this mean?

  1. It means taking the job and your work seriously, but not taking yourself seriously.
  2. It means being light, welcoming and open to allow for inclusivity and new ideas.
  3. It means creating an atmosphere that fosters connections.

Question of the week: Are you a joyful leader?

What we are working on…

Based on research and direct input from clients on what is needed the most from our leaders today, we are focused on re-introducing our workshop programs with even more in-depth content designed to forward the development of emerging leaders.

So with a changing world, we are providing emerging leaders the qualities and skills needed to keep you and your employees engaged, empowered and able to do a lot with reduced resources in some cases.

Here are topics we teach that can help you stand out as a leader and or an employee:

  1. The ability to work outside of your comfort zone.
  2. The advantages of self-discipline.
  3. The skills needed to pair humility with confidence.
  4. Why it is important to stay present.
  5. Embracing difficult job duties and or projects.

I want to thank all of you for following The Gargano Leadership Group!
